Remembering Anthony Saitta, 1947-2025

It is with sadness that Theatre Arts Action Trust wishes to mark the recent death of Tony Saitta.
A former Secretary, Trustee and founder member, Tony was central to a lot of the activity leading up to the establishment of the Headgate Theatre and then for some 20 years was a significant volunteer often seen behind the bar or front desk.

It was Tony along with former Treasurer John O’Halloran who transported two suitcases to London containing the Trust’s lottery bid which enabled us to convert what was then a ladies health spa into our lovely theatre.

Tony, a former English teacher, was heavily involved in lots of local amateur theatre particularly with The Priory Players and Troupe and was often seen treading the boards particularly in more classical pieces. His involvement at Headgate included helping design and set up the theatre’s first website and he ran the first Headgate youth theatre workshops.

His funeral is at Colchester Crematorium on 9th May at 12.15pm and Tony asked that rather than offer floral tributes he would like people to make a donation in support of the theatre using this link set up by the funeral directors.
