ACCESSIBILITY
Do you need step free access or other assistance when visiting the theatre?
We will do our very best to meet your needs, and hope that the following information is helpful.
Entering the theatre
The main entrance to the foyer is via a single step but there is step-free access into the building via a ramp to a side door to the theatre. Wheelchair and other users are asked to ring the assistance bell on the wall beside the main foyer door and we will come and meet you and guide you to the ramped access.
Inside the theatre
There is step free access to the main auditorium, rehearsal and meeting rooms and a dedicated accessible toilet. There is a lift to the Lounge bar and Studio.
Wheelchairs
Seats A10 and A11 in the front row of the main auditorium are available for those in a wheelchair. All other seating rows have stepped access. There is no handrail on the aisle steps.
Our seating arrangements will accommodate a standard size (63cm wide) wheelchair in these spaces. If you have a larger individually designed wheelchair, please contact our box office to discuss your needs so we can try to accommodate you. If you are booking online, please email tickets@headgatetheatre.co.uk or call 01206 366000 to let us know your requirements.
Mobility Scooters and walkers
If you are using a walking aid, our front of house team will be pleased to store it in the foyer during the performance for you, and to return it to you at the end of the evening. Our auditorium wheelchair seating areas and lifts are not suitable for mobility scooters, but patrons may leave their scooters in the foyer areas.
Refreshments
If you’d like to order a drink or ice cream that’s brought to your seat during the interval, please speak to one of our front of house team.
Hearing Loop
The main auditorium is fitted with a hearing loop that is turned on for all performances. The Rehearsal Room and Studio are not fitted with hearing loops.
Assistance Dogs
Whilst we welcome assistance dogs throughout the venue and at all events, we must know if you are bringing an assistance dog to a performance, as there are only certain seats where the dog can be safely accommodated.
Disabled Parking
We are not able to offer any parking in the immediate vicinity of the theatre due to loading restrictions. There are single and double yellow lines on the roads around the theatre.
Access to the side entrance must be kept clear for emergency vehicles and evacuation purposes.
We have a foyer seating area where you can wait if a relative is dropping you off before parking, and our front of house team will make you comfortable.
Disabled badge holders have free parking for up to 3 hours (in any bay, when displaying a Blue Badge with time clock set to time of arrival) in local council run car parks:
- St John’s Multi Storey Car Park, Southway. This car park is only accessible by vehicles from the dual carriageway. It is our nearest car park and has 14 disabled badge bays on the 2nd floor. However, access via a lift is only available up until 6pm and the car park closes at 7pm.
- Vineyard Street Car Park. Surface car park with 5 disabled badge bays. Approximately a 4 minute walk from the theatre.
- Britannia Car park. Surface car park with 9 disabled badge bays. Approximately a 7 minute walk from the theatre.
- St Mary’s Multi Storey Car Park, Balkerne Hill. 8 disabled badge bays on the ground floor. Approximately a 7 minute walk from theatre.
