Open auditions for 2:22 A Ghost Story

All performers will need to be available for the whole week commencing 28th February.
Rehearsal plan: Rehearsals commence 15th November 2026
Rehearsals will be mainly on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings from mid November. The exact schedule will be developed once cast and the availability of individuals is known.

Auditions will be held on Sunday 27th September @ 1pm.

Play read through: 9th September @ 7.40pm
A read through of the play will take place on 9th September @ 7.40 and the bar will be open to make it a social event too. Anyone interested in auditioning should try and attend this read through if possible.
Plot overview and character descriptions
Jenny and her husband Sam have just moved into a new, fixer-upper home with their baby daughter. But while Sam has been away on a business trip, Jenny has heard the exact same haunting sounds over the baby monitor every single night—at exactly 2:22am. When Sam returns, he dismisses her fears with cold, scientific logic. That evening, they host a dinner party for Sam’s old university friend, Lauren, and her pragmatic new boyfriend, Ben. As wine flows, the fractures in both couples’ relationships begin to show and Jenny pushes the group into a high-stakes experiment: they must all stay awake until 2:22am to see what is actually coming for them.
2:22 A Ghost Story features a tight, four-character cast whose opposing worldviews drive the tension during a single dinner party. Written by Danny Robins, the supernatural thriller relies heavily on the psychological friction between sceptics and believers.
Jenny, female, playing age mid-30s
Jenny is a protective, exhausted new mother who has recently moved into a renovated London home with her husband and baby daughter. While her husband is away on business, she experiences terrifying footsteps and crying coming from the baby monitor at exactly 2:22am every night. Terrified that her child is in danger, she is driven by maternal instinct and raw fear, leaving her emotionally overwrought and deeply frustrated by her husband’s dismissive attitude.
Sam, male, playing age late 30s – early 40s
Sam is Jenny’s husband, an astronomer, and a staunch, unwavering rationalist. He possesses an intellectual smugness and a know-it-all attitude that can lean toward being pretentious. Believing that everything in the universe has a logical, scientific explanation, he completely dismisses his wife’s fears as stress-induced hallucinations. His rigid scepticism serves as the primary barrier and emotional foil to Jenny’s experience.
Lauren, female, playing age late 30s – early 40s
Lauren is an old university friend of Sam’s who arrives at the dinner party as a guest. Professionally trained as a psychotherapist, she operates on a complex middle ground between the two hosts. While she initially tries to offer grounded psychological reasons for Jenny’s stress, her carefree, self-assured exterior mask deep vulnerabilities. As the night progresses and alcohol flows, she reveals a hidden openness to the paranormal from her own past.
Ben, male, playing age mid – late 40s
Ben is Lauren’s new boyfriend, a builder who acts as the practical and spiritual counterweight to Sam’s cold intellect. Unlike the middle-class academia backgrounds of the others, Ben is warm, endearing, and deeply intuitive. He holds a firm, unashamed belief in the supernatural and spiritual energy. His willingness to validate Jenny’s terror rapidly escalates the underlying tension and triggers direct confrontations with Sam.
