‘Our Island Stories: Country Walks Through Colonial Britain’. With Professor Corinne Fowler.
A talk by Corinne Fowler (author of same, 2024), Professor of Colonialism and Heritage at the University of Leicester, specialises in colonial history, decolonisation and the British countryside’s relationship to Empire. She is perhaps best known for her work with the National Trust to record their properties’ links with slavery and Britain’s colonial past. Corinne will discuss what a walk in the countryside can reveal about our country’s colonial history.
Corinne has appeared on BBC Country File’s aptly titled ‘Plodcast’ and was interviewed in the Guardian when her book was published: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/21/corinne-fowler-national-trust-

Bryn Griffiths, our event host, recently interviewed Corinne Fowler on his podcast: https://youtu.be/po5S8XiE3tE?si=3Pc6eKuVlnyVUvAw
Expect to see Corinne talking about how her ten walks revealed many fascinating connections between our colonial history and British rural life. In addition to discussion, you can expect to see film clips, poetry and some folk singing.
