It was with great sadness that we heard recently that Miss Janet Fulford, our Patron and a supporter of The Headgate for many years, had died.
Until her retirement, Miss Fulford was a well-known local architect. She became associated with the Theatre Arts Action Trust as it reached a successful conclusion in finding a premises suitable for use by amateur drama groups and individuals. The Trust had found the former chapel in Colchester, which they thought might be capable of being converted into a theatre, and Janet was very helpful in giving freely of her expertise in looking at the building and, later on, in selecting an architect to design the converted building. Once the work was under way, she continued to support the Trust by keeping an expert and professional eye on progress.
Miss Fulford’s assistance and support were so much appreciated that she was asked if she would be prepared to be listed as Patron of what came to be called The Headgate Theatre, and everybody was delighted when she accepted the invitation.
In expressing our appreciation of the support which she gave us, we send our condolences and best wishes to her family and friends.
